White Hot Kiss Review – Jennifer L. Armentrout

I picked up the boxed set of this series due to it being one sale. I never really had any interest in this series of Jennifer’s but picked it up to add to my TBR anyways cuz hey she has never let me down…and what started out slow with a whiny main character ended up turning into a fun read! This series is about the fight of free will and between good and evil. Layla is a orphan the Wardens have picked up and taken In Even though she is only half warden. Her other half is Demon and you guessed it that’s the evil characters the wardens are trying to kill so the balance between good and evil stays balanced. At first Layla annoyed me she was too whiny like a spoiled little brat but once she meets Roth She starts becoming a stronger character at this point too and you start to relate and like her. And once Roth fully comes in you cannot put the book down! Roth’s sarcastic attitude and inhibited sense of self worth make this sexy demon the life of the book! There is also Layla’s other lust interest Zayne who is a warden and part of the good guy side of the story. at first I liked him as he’s the guy she can’t have because she’s half demon but then I fell in love with Roth and just kept thinking of him as a big brother.

Also the story gets more interesting halfway through. We have Layla working with Roth who is supposed to be her and her family’s enemy but they are start to fall for each other. And the tension between them is exquisitely sexy. So if you decide to read just know it’s way worth it!!

Since this was a digital box set I had picked up I didn’t catch that the first book in it was just a novella about two lesser characters from the main series I thought they had a good story going so I was a little confused and disappointed when reading on to white hot kiss they weren’t the main characters. (For my review for Bitter Sweet Love click).

Other than Layla’s initial Cain character confusion, the whiny child like phases of Layla and slow start I am starting to get into this series and can’t wait to read on! The ending of White Hot Kiss will definitely hit you in the feels!! Enjoy!

My Rating: 3 Stars

Overview from Goodreads:

One kiss could be the last.

Seventeen-year-old Layla just wants to be normal. But with a kiss that kills anything with a soul, she’s anything but normal. Half demon, half gargoyle, Layla has abilities no one else possesses.

Raised among the Wardens—a race of gargoyles tasked with hunting demons and keeping humanity safe—Layla tries to fit in, but that means hiding her own dark side from those she loves the most. Especially Zayne, the swoon-worthy, incredibly gorgeous and completely off-limits Warden she’s crushed on since forever.

Then she meets Roth—a tattooed, sinfully hot demon who claims to know all her secrets. Layla knows she should stay away, but she’s not sure she wants to—especially when that whole no-kissing thing isn’t an issue, considering Roth has no soul.

But when Layla discovers she’s the reason for the violent demon uprising, trusting Roth could not only ruin her chances with Zayne… it could brand her a traitor to her family. Worse yet, it could become a one-way ticket to the end of the world.
